The Trust has again decided to spray toxins over large areas of the island – though we’ll give them a D for effort. They’ve backed off using glyphosate and there’s improved signage and taping off of affected areas. But while the sprays being used are reportedly less impactful than glyphosate, the 2nd listed below is particularly toxic to humans, wildlife, can even affect compost. And once again the GrowNYC Teaching Garden is directly subjected to the runoff. We disagree that controlling unwanted vegetation justifies applying toxins to large areas of presumedly environmentally themed Governors Island. Photos and map below.
