Governors Island historic district lighting hearing, Round 2 – Tues Jan 31st, 9:30am

Proposed Governors Island historic district lighting hearing, Round 2
Landmarks & Preservation Committee (LPC) Tues Jan 31st, 9:30am
Approximate Time: 11:00am-11:30am (Be Here by 10:00am)
Hearing links and info: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/lpc/hearings/hearings.page

There will not be public testimony this time, but one can still email testimony@lpc.nyc.gov because while the Trust for GI’s revised plan to be presented tomorrow is an improvement, it doesn’t go far enough. In particular, while reduced in number, oppressive ‘moonlighting’ fixtures remain in the historic district and the massive poles are only reduced 5 feet from 35 – 30ft. Also there’s no consideration of dedicated ‘dark-sky’ areas which would benefit wildlife and humans.

Largely due to public input on October 11, 2022 the LPC asked the Trust for GI (TGI) to come back with a different proposal or a reframing for lighting in the GI historic district.
